New split with one of my best friends, we can't keep our hands off each other! Tracks 1-4 is a noisecore set recorded live in the studio. We collaborated on track 5, I played my banjo and he did the rest. Maybe you know what to expect with tracks 6-10!
The theme of this release is something we'd been talking about recently. It seems like in a lot of debate on the big issues of the day, people on each side of the fence too easily misrepresent or oversimplify what their opponents are saying, leading to pointless conflict, arguing about points no one is actually making, and blocking any chance of real understanding. We've seen these strawman arguments on both sides of such issues as the last Scottish independence referendum, Brexit, US politics, Black Lives Matter, trans rights, abortion, coronavirus restrictions, conspiracy theories, police brutality, etc.
It's easy to paint the people who disagree with you in a certain way, put them in certain boxes, and lump all of them together, but this dilutes and obscures the real issues at hand. It also sort of reinforces their stance, because to them you now seem clueless and ignorant.
Sometimes it's because one person/portion of the people holding a position is very stupid, and argue their point poorly, and then their opponents hold them up as representing everyone who holds that position. Sometimes it's just an unwillingness to look past the surface labels and listen to an enemy's point of view. The best way to destroy your enemies is to befriend them!
We both sometimes feel this on a personal level. Sometimes when I'm trying to make my thoughts clear, people dispute what they think I'm saying or they have a prejudiced view on the subject, and it's quickly obvious that they haven't really grasped the point I was actually making. They've made up their mind based on a false representation or a misunderstanding, and just shut down any discussion. If you've been listening to my music for a while, you might be thinking "Huh, no wonder!"
With a little understanding, we could all be perfect friends! Could we? Well, without it, there is no hope.
